If you've ever heard the word versatile, there's a new synonym: RAYE.
Born and raised in Tooting, London, Rachel Agatha Keen, better known as RAYE, is a Grammy-nominated British singer-songwriter making waves across the music industry.
Her passion for music ignited at just ten years old, performing at small gigs and her local church. In 2012, she began studying at the prestigious BRIT School —home to icons such as Adele and Amy Winehouse— but left two years later, eager to break free from its constraints and forge her own path. By December 2014, she independently released her debut 7-track EP, Welcome to the Winter, on SoundCloud, marking the beginning of her journey.
Over the years, Keen has collaborated with a stellar lineup of artists, including Jax Jones, Beyoncé, BloodPop®, Charli XCX, David Guetta, Ellie Goulding, Madison Beer, Little Mix, and more. Her ability to effortlessly blend genres from pop and R&B to rap and dance highlights her remarkable creativity and songwriting prowess.
Despite being signed to Polydor Records at just seventeen under a four-album contract, RAYE faced years of delays and limitations that prevented her from releasing her debut album. Frustrated but determined, she parted ways with the label in 2021 and began releasing music independently. Her perseverance paid off in late 2022 when her single Escapism., featuring 070 Shake, went viral on TikTok, skyrocketing to number one on the UK charts and becoming her first-ever entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her long-awaited debut studio album, My 21st Century Blues, is out now.
